Who first introduced you to flying? My dad, Bruce Obermeyer, first introduced me to aviation. I grew up with it as part of my life and my dream.
Dad was a decorated Air Force instructor pilot. He mainly flew the C-119, EC-47, and KC-135. And he was a combat veteran in Vietnam who received the DFC with clusters and other medals. He was allowed a slight delay before deployment to see me born. That led to some reassignments later that put Capt. Spitz instead of my dad flying with 2Lt. Sonny Primm on Baron 52 when it went down 05 FEB 73. My dad never has gotten over that.
I wrote a little about that in my blog article “Die On Our Feet Or Live On Our Knees” and also a little about my dad’s character on “The Climb” article.
Find my dad at his website at opaobie.com and give him a word of thanks for his service (Vietnam guys got none) and for his legacy to the love of flying. Let’s all work to pass that on to the next generation.
