We all get upset by the news sometimes.
Ok, I didn’t get this out when I said I would in my note two days ago. But there’s been a lot going on in the news lately from around the world, and I didn’t want to distract.
Do you find politics and other news upsetting these days? And with so many people being accused of this and investigated for that, it seems so easy to raise doubts about almost anyone. How do we deal with all the madness?
Since you can’t just shut off the world, no matter how much you want to sometimes, you might check out my article “Stop the Noise” as a starting point for how and when to take up sides on issues.
The key is exactly what is frequently kept from us: Truth.
Truth brings clarity. Truth resolves issues, or at least should. Unfortunately, many people would rather exploit and hurt than seek truth, or even use truth to exploit and hurt.
A lot of people start arguments before they’re even educated on an issue, which isn’t helpful. And we hear phrases like, “That’s your truth” or “I’m just speaking my truth” as if truth can be different from person to person. That isn’t truth. Truth is truth whether you believe it or not.
This is particularly problematic when it comes to things of the Bible. Many Christians feel unprepared to defend Biblical truths or know what to believe.
Biblical illiteracy is higher today than ever before. Too many people just believe things they’ve heard or believe what they want to be true without checking to see what the Bible says.
For example, what if I told you that angels don’t actually sing? How many Christmas carols would that mess up? Yet, according to the Bible, it’s true! Nowhere in Scripture do you find that angels sing (one slight possibility is in Job 38:7, but that’s sketchy at best).
Check the birth of Christ in Luke 2, probably the most famous passage where angels are misrepresented. You see that the angel speaking to the shepherds was suddenly joined by a heavenly host (army), praising God and SAYING, not singing as we always hear each Christmas.
No, that’s not earth shattering, lol. But it’s an example of a common belief that’s wrong and unchecked. Makes you wonder what else we take for granted, which can be a dangerous and eye-opening path to go down.
Let’s be sure to seek truth and get educated before taking sides on an issue. And where the truth isn’t yet known, let’s be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry (James 1:19).
Blessings to you!

P.S. Providing resources to educate and help people is what Sonshine Institute is all about. I’m hosting a WEBINAR about that in a few days, and you’re invited! I’d love for us to finally meet! More about that next time!
